Gary L. Benton has previously authored ten books of fiction, non-fiction and Southern humor. Such notable authors as, Matt Braun, Stephen Lodge, Don Bendell, and many others have endorsed his work. His latest endorsements come from veteran Actors Robert Woods and James Drury, both well known for their appearances in western movies. His survival book, “Simple Survival, a Family Outdoors Guide,” is a Silver Award Winner from the Military Writers Society of American. Additionally, this book was recently added to the prestigious Estes Park Library in Colorado.
Benton retired from the United States military in 1997 with over twenty-six years of active duty, after serving in Southeast Asia, Europe, and numerous states throughout America. While in the military Sergeant Benton worked in the Life Support Career Field and Industrial Safety.
Having always loved the rich history of the Deep South, he visited his book cover photographer in May of 2007, and immediately fell in love with both Melanie D. Calvert and wonderful state of Mississippi. He now calls the state home.
His hobbies include hunting, camping, fishing, hiking, web design, cartooning, and reading. When he's not working, you'll usually find him, along with his wife, Melanie, in their camper at some remote location in the Mississippi. Mister Benton has an Associate Degree in Search and Rescue, Survival Operations, a Bachelors Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, and a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology completed except for the thesis.
He is a member of the Western Writers of America, American Authors Association, Military Writers Society of America, Southern Humorists Group, and the Mississippi Wildlife Federation. He and his wife live in Mississippi with two dogs and two cats.
